Remember that photo of Sag 1a? How do you think they got it? An Earth-sized virtual radio observatory. Now, imagine the resolution if we can do a longer baseline than 8000 miles.
Yeah, and we definitely will do that at some point. Getting the phasing right when the position of the antennas is moving and not necessarily known to within a fraction of the wavelength makes space based interferometer very difficult but not unmanageable entirely (as spektr r showed).
What about observing the same object from Earth 6 months apart, wouldn't that give you a baseline of 300 million kilometers?
No, because the signal from 6 months ago will not have any cross correlation with that of now. The only way to use that baseline is to have a space radio telescope trail the Earth's orbit by half a year. Getting that data to Earth would be a bit of a challenge (with the Sun on the direct line between this orbital telescope and Earth).

The problem with all these systems is that certain people lose focus by using them. Some successful people use these systems. But there is a single variable that is common for all successful people: focus.
When I was using Evernote I was not able to finish a single thing... blog posts, call for coffee, read something, etc.
I'll say that for me, I hopped across note and productivity apps until I switched to emacs/org-mode. It has not made me wildly more productive, but it has (or can have) any feature other programs offer, so there is no productivity FOMO when I learn about new programs.
See, in my opinion, the issue with every org-mode suggestion is that it assumes productivity is only tied to being sitting down on your computer. Would I really need to grab my laptop to note that I did grocery or cleaned my house?

另一位被老师抱怨过的家长，是浴朗的妈妈，那位为了得到最好的奥数师资，让女儿转校的母亲，她是清华大学的校友。浴朗为了备战奥数，放弃了自主招生和其他加分渠道。但她们没想到，2014年政策突然调整，奥数比赛获奖者，将不再获得高考保送资格。在这种打击下，浴朗在奥数竞赛中考试失利了。

阶层难以撼动，精英阶层自我复制的动力远远大于呼吁社会公平的动力。
其实世界上任何一个顶级学府，都是以精英为主的。读本科时，我去宾夕法尼亚大学当交换生，同学很多都是美国的有钱人。他们常说，谁家里是亿万富翁，我就想，亿万是个什么概念。美国室友带我去她家里住了一天，他们家是很高级的住宅，每个人都有一辆豪华房车或者跑车，想去哪里都不受限制。这也让我意识到世界的贫富差距有多悬殊。
无论是中方还是西方的顶尖学府，无论是考试还是申请制度，最后筛选出来的人，可能有不同的个人特质，但基本都是各个社会中家庭条件比较优渥的人。不能完全怪筛选方式不对，而是精英家庭实在太会适应了。甚至有些精英们，本身就是制定游戏规则的人。
如果我们要寄望于教育，让教育来实现社会平等、促进阶层流动的话，我觉得这是很困难的一件事。
我来自一个双职工的家庭，父母都是在科研单位工作。我父母收入不算很高，但文化素养很高，所以我也是“学二代”。我的初中是一所私立学校，里面有很多台湾的有钱人。我是考进去帮学校冲升学率的学童。
我们家没有那些同学那么有钱。看到老师有喜欢的学生，我妈妈也会努力给老师送礼，但又没有什么华贵的礼物。那时候有人送我妈一大罐蛮贵的香水，她立刻要我拿去送给老师。我才知道，她那时候也会感到有点压力。
我的高中是台湾师范大学附属高级中学，类似北京的实验中学。有很多工人的小孩，也是凭着努力考上这所高中。我那时是负责家长会签到表的，我的父母随时都可以来开家长会，请个假就好了，他们的爸妈根本不可以请假。
当时我没有接触到任何教育理论，只是觉得这个世界不太一样。后来，我考上了台湾大学，回初中看老师，老师有些意外，说：“看你初中成绩不好，居然考上了台大，果然小孩最后的结果还是要看家长。”
我的确继承了父母的一些文化资本，很多观念也是从父母那里学来的。比如读书就是要往死里读，要有风骨，不要光想着赚钱。十岁的时候我就发下宏愿，社会要我好好读书，我这辈子就好好读书（笑）。从来不知道读书以外的世界。我大学的志愿表，是妈妈坐在沙发上看着我填下去的。因为父母都在学术界，我一开始就知道学术圈是什么。我更能意识到什么是学术界感兴趣的选题，做什么报告才会拿高分。大学写报告，有什么问题不会，也会跟妈妈讨论。
面对长官，我们不会局促，这也是我在职场的一个好处。
