Lo-Fi Music

Music can take us to a different world, make us experience the inexperienced and sometimes even relive our past. They are like stories which make us feel love like a young couple just fallen in love or feel sadness of someone with a shattered heart. Make us happy like a toddler getting a new toy or laugh like a young boy riding on the back of his dad. Feel the calmness of laying your head on your mother's lap or dance like a girl dancing in a rain.

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” ― Plato

Music forms a deep connection with our minds, helping us forget everything around us and linking us with our inner-self. Every tone and every beat we hear, hits us differently. Some fills us with adrenaline and overwhelming emotions while others provide peace and relaxes us a bit. It is the latter which I want to talk about today.

Last year, while browsing though the YouTube, I discovered a channel called ChilledCow (now known as Lo-Fi Girl) and subsequently a type of music known as ChillHop music. It was a very different but impactful experience for me. The music had a slow and repetitive beats in it and tunes were soft and soothing. It was neither so slow it makes you sleepy, nor so fast it makes you anxious. It's neither so boring you forget it entirely, nor so interesting it distracts you from your work. Both the beats and tune together created an environment which was ideal for relaxing or focusing on work, erasing away every stress and negative thoughts. It took away all my stress built due to over a year worth of negative news in lock-down due to corona, concerns about my future & career and my lack of productivity. It basically wrapped me in blanket of soft and predictable sounds, preventing my mind to think about unpredictable and harsh world outside thus helping me to focus on my productivity. That day I was able to put in more hours of study than I did in a week! I never knew that a few repetitive beats could do so much! Upon digging about it more on the internet, I came to know that these type of sounds are scientifically proven to help us relax and focus & there is a name for the effect they cause “Cocooning” (Perfectly named!).

So if you are looking to calm your nerves, just grab a pair of headphone, lay back on a sofa or lie down on a bed and tune-in to the world of calming Lo-Fi music! But beware it is addictive.
